Lake Superior Beechwood Dice Tray With Black Leather Liner

This beautiful dice tray is made out of old growth, quarter-sawn Beech wood reclaimed from the bottom of Lake Superior! This one of a kind tray shows the wood's natural, two-toned beauty, paired with a handsome leather liner.

The wood used in this tray is extremely rare- it was planted in the 1600's and chopped down in the Lake Superior logging boom of the late 1800's/early 1900's. During the logging process, several logs sunk to the bottom of the lake and sat preserved for decades.

When you hold this tray in your hand, one of the first things you'll notice is how close together the grain lines are- these lines give us a clue as to how old the tree had to have been when it was cut down. Old growth wood is far more dense than what is readily available at saw mills and lumber yards today.

This dice tray truly is one of a kind; it is unlikely that we will ever get more of this wood in the future!

Our trays are naturally colored and finished with a food-safe wax-based sealer to make sure that they stay beautiful for years to come.

  • Wood (and leather, if applicable) is a natural product, and can show signs of wear over time with normal use. This includes, but is not limited to dents, scratches, and color fading/darkening. If you're using your tray under normal conditions, it should last for a very long time. Depending on the type of dice you use with your tray, dents may occur sooner or may not occur at all. Heavy dice such as metal or stone dice, or dice with pointed corners may dent your tray faster. This wear is to be expected and is not cause for concern.

Be cautious when using your tray with stone dice. Stone dice tend to be fragile and may chip when rolling, especially when several dice are thrown at once. You as the owner of the dice tray are responsible for taking care of your dice; Sherwood Crafts is not responsible for any damage done to dice during use.

The finish we use is a natural, food safe wax-based finish that should not need to be reapplied. If damage occurs to your tray at any time such that the raw wood is showing, please contact us and we can reapply the finish for you. (Shipping charges may apply)

It is natural for wood to move seasonally. Your dice tray should be small enough to where this movement is invisible, however, if you notice small imperfections in the joinery of your tray over time, this may be a product of wood movement and shouldn't impact the use or strength of your tray.

Keep your tray away from harsh chemicals, liquids, extreme temperatures or direct sunlight for extended periods of time (only due to sun bleaching and/or darkening of the wood). If liquids spill onto your dice tray, do not let pools sit on the surface; dry off your tray quickly and thoroughly. You may use mild soap and water to spot-clean your tray if you need to. Sherwood Crafts is not responsible for any accidental damage to your tray once you receive it.

If damage occurs during shipping, please notify us and we will work with you on a solution.
